How Football Squares Work

Print the Grid

Print out a blank template or build a custom board. You'll get a 10x10 grid with 100 squares to fill.

Claim Squares

Pass the sheet around. Everyone writes their name in one or more empty squares and pays the entry fee for each one.

Draw Numbers

Once all 100 squares are claimed, randomly draw numbers 0 through 9 for each row and column header and write them in.

Watch and Win

At the end of each quarter, check the last digit of both scores. The square where those two digits meet on the grid is the winner.

How to Draw Your Numbers

Two ways to do this once every square is claimed, and both work fine.

The Hat Draw

Write 0 through 9 on ten slips of paper, fold them, and pull them one at a time for the top axis. Do it again with a fresh set of ten slips for the side axis. Read each number out loud as you pull it so the whole room can watch it happen. It's slow, it's a little theatrical, and that's kind of the point.

The Number Generator
