What Are College Football Playoff Squares?
The College Football Playoff is a 12-team single-elimination bracket that runs alongside the rest of bowl season, and squares works exactly the way it does for any football game: a 10x10 grid, names go in, digits 0 through 9 get drawn for the rows and columns once the grid is full, and the last digit of each team's score at the end of every quarter picks a winner.
Bowl season stacks games on top of games. A squares board gives every single one a reason to matter.
Bowl Season Has More Than the Playoff
The twelve-team bracket is the headline, but it is not the only football on in December and January. Dozens of bowl games fill the calendar around it, and squares works the same way for any of them. Run a board for the Playoff game your group is watching, and start separate boards for any bowl games on the side. One link per game keeps the scoring clean.
Bowl and Playoff Games on the Schedule
Kickoff times above show as date-only until the network confirms them; the date is correct either way.
Tips for a College Playoff Squares Pool
- Sell squares first, randomize numbers second, same as any football squares board.
- One board per game. The bracket has too many moving pieces to track on a single grid.
- Decide your overtime rule before kickoff, since college overtime is not the same format as the NFL's.
- Set a claim deadline. Bowl season moves fast, and the schedule is easy to lose track of.

Create Your BoardBeyond the College Playoff
football squares covers any NFL game on the schedule, and Super Bowl squares is the dedicated home for the NFL's championship. The NFL runs its own bracket at the same time of year: NFL playoff squares covers Wild Card weekend through the conference championships. Looking further back on the calendar, Thanksgiving football squares and Christmas football squares cover the holiday slate.
