What Are Thanksgiving Football Squares?

Same 10x10 grid as any football squares board: 100 squares, names go in, digits 0 through 9 get drawn for the rows and columns once the grid fills. The last digit of each team's score at the end of every quarter picks a winner. Thanksgiving has meant NFL football for decades, and the tradition usually puts more than one game on the schedule, which makes it a good day to run more than one board if your group wants to follow all of them.

Somebody's uncle is already asking who has the good squares before the turkey's carved.

A live football squares board. Works the same way for the Thanksgiving slate as it does any other week.

Running a Board for the Holiday

Set the board up before the family shows up. Name it, share the link in the group chat, and let everyone claim squares from their phone while the food's still in the oven. Once the grid fills, numbers shuffle randomly and the board takes it from there, marking each quarter winner automatically. If more than one Thanksgiving game is on your radar, start a separate board for each: one link per game keeps the scoring simple and keeps the group chat from mixing up two grids.

Tips for a Thanksgiving Squares Pool

  • One board per game. Trying to track two matchups on one grid gets confusing fast.
  • Sell squares first, randomize numbers second, same as any other week.
  • Decide your overtime rule before kickoff, not during the fourth quarter.
  • Set a deadline. Family members trickle in all day; give everyone a clear cutoff to claim a square.

FAQ

Yes, one board per game. Thanksgiving has meant NFL football for decades, and the day usually has more than one game worth watching. A fresh board for each game keeps the scoring simple.

After every square on the grid is claimed, same as any other football squares board. Get your group's squares filled before the first kickoff, then the digits 0 through 9 shuffle randomly across the grid.

No. Creating a board and claiming squares on Pick My Square is free. We never collect anything from players or hold anything for your group.

Yes. Type in any two teams and any date, and the board works the same way. Families running a backyard flag football game or a local high school rivalry on Thanksgiving morning use it too.

That depends on the board. The host picks, in the board's settings, whether the last winner uses the score at the end of regulation or the final score after overtime. Settle it before the first kickoff of the day.
