What Are NFL Playoff Squares?

Same 10x10 grid, same rules as any football squares board. Names go in, digits 0 through 9 get drawn for the rows and columns once the grid is full, and the last digit of each team's score at the end of every quarter picks a winner. The difference in January is what is on the line: a bad quarter in Week 9 is forgettable, a bad quarter in a Wild Card game ends somebody's season.

One loss and a team's year is over. Squares makes sure every quarter of that gets watched.

One Board Per Round, or Run the Whole Postseason

Start a fresh board for each playoff game you care about: name it after the matchup, share the link, and let everyone claim squares before kickoff. If your crew wants to follow a team through the entire bracket, set up a series board instead. It links each game under one invite, so your group is not rebuilding the setup every week between Wild Card weekend and the conference championships.

Playoff Games on the Schedule

The playoff bracket is set once the regular season ends in early January, then runs from Wild Card weekend through the conference championships. Matchups will show up here once they are set.

Tips for a Playoff Squares Pool

  • Sell squares first, randomize numbers second, same as any other week.
  • Decide your overtime rule before kickoff. Playoff games have no ties, so it will matter sooner or later.
  • Name the board after the matchup if you are running one per game, so your group's link history stays easy to follow.
  • Set a claim deadline well before kickoff. Playoff crowds fill a board fast.

FAQ

Same 10x10 grid and rules. This page covers Wild Card weekend through the conference championships. The Super Bowl gets its own dedicated page with the best and worst numbers explained.

One board per game is the standard setup, and it keeps the scoring simple. If your group wants a single link that carries them through every round, a series board links multiple games together under one invite so you are not resetting the group chat each week.

Playoff games cannot end in a tie, so overtime comes up. The host sets, on the board, whether the last winner uses the score at the end of regulation or the final score after overtime. Announce it before kickoff.

After every square is claimed, same as any football squares board. Fill the grid before kickoff, then the digits 0 through 9 shuffle randomly across the rows and columns.

No. Creating a board and claiming squares on Pick My Square is free. We never collect anything from players or hold anything for your group.

Yes. Pick the game you care about, name the board, and share the link. Nothing requires you to track every game on the slate.
